A leader and elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, on Tuesday, came hard on former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, for publicly tearing his membership card of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking in Abuja, when the executive council of the National Youth Leaders of Nigeria (NYLN) paid him a courtesy visit, Clark said Obasanjo was not normal by that action.
He said Obasanjo, an Army General, former head of state, two-time president of this country and chairman of PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT), came out publicly to tear the membership card of a party, on which platform he was elected president of the country twice, “is that person normal,” he asked and added that Obasanjo was responsible for every trouble in the country.
He said Obasanjo’s criticism of President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration was based on Jonathan’s refusal to be controlled by him.
He, however, noted that what the country needed was continuity and not change, saying, “Who are those people clamouring for change? Obasanjo is one of them, he wants to rule Aso rock from his Otta farm. He wants to control Jonathan and he failed.
“That is why he resigned as the chairman of Board of Trustees of PDP. He wants the BoT chairman to be consulted before any action will be taken.
Clark pointed out that Obasanjo, who was accusing President Jonathan today was the person that spent several millions of naira to fund his third term bid, giving each member of the House of Representative N50 million each and every Senator N7 million to support his ambition to remain in power.
“I challenge Obasanjo to come out to deny this. When EFCC was probing the former governor of Jigawa State, Saminu Turaki, he confessed that he gave Obasanjo between N5 and N7 billion to implement the third term agenda,” he stated.
Earlier, the leader of the group, Comrade Soji Martins Ogbonna, said the organisation was set to campaign for continuity and not change.
